Think Great Thoughts

I'm reading a book by Chip Ingram entitled Good to Great in God's Eyes. It starts with thinking great thoughts. I read this part last week but I want to go back to remind me the importance of thinking. It says in Colossians 3:2, "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on the earth." If I could have a field trip in my mind will I see thoughts of this world? It can be so hard not to think of the wonders that this world have to offer but the main focus is what cannot be seen.

  • Start with the Bible. Side note here, have you seen the movie Book of Eli? I hope after watching that you will now value the Book. Soak your mind with the only absolute truth in this world, God's words and promises.
  • Take time to notice beauty. The incredible power that made everything. Don't be so affected with the bad things happening in the world (politics, economy, calamities, etc). Dwelling on these thoughts will make you irritated, never contented, afraid.
  • Meditate on spiritual insights. Just being reminded of the thought that God loves you unconditionally is encouraging and give you hope. Unconditional means that my performance wont change that fact. God will love us in whatever state we are in our lives.

In application, instead of thinking of the calorie count of that last meal or the newest dress in the mall let us replace it with thoughts that has value. Memorize verses. Listen to great music. There are things that we can do to transform our thought life into a GREAT one.

"Finally brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy to praise, dwell on these things." Philippians 4:8
